DMG World Media turns up the heat on CMPi with show tie-in

1 comment on this article.DMG World Media has upped the ante in its battle with rival CMPi to control the kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms market by relocating its current exhibition with the Tile and Stone Show and Floorstyle.
The move comes after CMPi announced it was to launch Kbb London from 17-19 May at Earls Court, in direct competition with DMG World Media's Kbbreview Expo.
DMG World Media group publishing and events director Patrick Taylor said: "We always said that the CMPi show was an inconvenience. We were more than confident that the industry was ultimately made up of professional business people and they would make their decision based on hard facts. Kbbreview Expo was always the most established show with the best credentials."
To counter this, DMG has joined forces with Kick Start Publishing's Tile and Stone Show and Floorstyle to produce an even bigger kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms show under the guise of its Kbbreview Expo. It will be held from 10-12 May 2009 at Excel London.
Kbb London event director Paul Sweeney said: "The news that Kbbreview Expo will join forces with the Tile and Stone Show and Floorstyle has little effect on Kbb London. The nature of both these events further reinforces the differentiation between the two London exhibitions. Kbb London is targeting the mid- to high-end of the market and therefore we see little overlap with the audience that will visit these more volume-focused events."

In the current financial climate it is a brave decision by CMPi to launch a show in this market and it will be interesting to see how it develops.
At the same time I also believe DMG World Media has made the right move to protect its brand and visitor figures by combining Kbbreview with the Tile and Stone Show and Floorstyle.
